Intihuatana, - a sacred stone in Machu Picchu

Intihuatana

The name "Intihuatana" denotes the place where the sun was "bound" to Machu Picchu.
The exact nature of the rites carried out for this purpose is unknown, but it is clear that the stones orientation allowed the Inca priests to predict the solstices.
